Christmas Day Happiness!

Christmas morning, I woke up with a terrible migraine!  I've been getting migraines the past two weeks (actually feels like it started when my nausea stopped).  But it got better as the day progressed, thank goodness!  We hosted Christmas at our home this year with all my family and let me tell you... it was one of the most fun Christmases I've ever had! From Ping Pong, to darts, to all the cookies and appetizers we had to snack on, we had smiles all around! My grandma made her famous cookies she makes every year, the guys did their thing joking around with each other and playing the" guy games" outside. My little sister, Heather,  who was sick as a dog for the past two days even made it out! That meant so much to me, knowing how awful she has felt the past few days. We opened gifts, and you better believe Coconut received some gifts!!! My parents bought Eric and I a crib and matching changing table for us.  They are absolutely beautiful and will look perfect in Coconuts room!!! Heather and Adam got our little beach baby a whale crib mobile, and Mo and Curtis got me a massage and facial! Oh lala!!!  We were made stockings (my mom made the girls' stockings and my dad made the guys'), and we definitely treated my parents this year!  We had cookies my mom had baked and her and I cooked dinner together for everyone.  We set up dinner sets to eat outside since it was such a beautiful evening... perfect weather for a California Christmas! Eric lit up our firepit and we ate dinner with an awesome "ambiance" :)  We decided to go with a non-traditional fun dinner this year and cook a tri tip! It came out so yummy! Eric must've ate 3 or 4 slices. I was only able to eat one since my stomach hasn't been a fan of meat all that much lately (so unlike me, I'm usually a huge meat and potatoes kinda girl!) We took Trixie down to the school before everyone came over, but she was really good with everyone anyways!
After dinner, we went over to my Aunt and Uncle's house in Mission Viejo for some dessert and cocktails. (Well, everyone else had cocktails- I had a bottle of water haha). We did a really fun white elephant gift exchange and Eric and I totally scored on that!  He ended up with the Fast & the Furious 6 movie, and Miley Cyrus' latest CD (that I'm totally gonna steal)   and i ended up with this really cool candle wine bottle stopper! We got to see my cousins and the little ones even put on a little show for us playing their violin! So cute!!! Everyone asked about Coconut, and it was really cool to talk about!  Everyone is so excited for us!!!
Coconut, we're so excited for you!!! Next Christmas will be your first Christmas out of my belly!!! Eeeeeeee!!!! <-- That's my excited noise haha
Thanks for reading and hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas as well!!! xoxo

1st and 2nd doctor appointments!

Ahhhh!!! I've so been lagging on this blog! I was sooooo tired my first trimester that besides going to work, playing with Trixie, and wondering when my next nap will be... all I wanted to do was sleep! I'm getting my energy back (at least I have way more energy now than I did before)!
I think it's been about 6 weeks that I haven't written and so much has happened! On January 3rd, Eric and I had our first doctor appointment. We got to see our baby for the first time. It was so cool to see arms flying everywhere and legs kicking up a storm! Eric even shed a tear he was so taken back. "That's our baby!!!"
After our appointment,  the doctor office called us back and made a follow up appointment for the following Tuesday.  I was a bit concerned that he wanted to see us again so quickly, especially with the placenta previa issue he had told us about that I had. Grandma and Grandpa Ortiz came with us to that next appointment.  They did the tummy ultrasound and drew the first part of labwork. My mom was soooo excited to see the baby and whew, Coconut really put on a show for her doing leg presses, putting it's hand so dramatically on top of it's forehead. It was pretty funny. The ultrasound tech was going to tell us the sex of the baby, but the umbilical cord was wrapped in between it's legs. Does this mean coconut is being stubborn already?  Haha oy vey!
Fast forward a few days Eric and I were getting impatient and really wanted to know if we were having a boy or a girl. I made an appointment with an ultrasound place that can determine the gender of our baby with 99% accuracy! I made the appointment for the very next day!!! So on tuesday the 7th... we found out... our baby Coconut is a GIRL!!! We wanted to keep it a secret and find out a surprise way to reveal it to my parents... stay tunes to hear how we did it!!! :)

Where'd my abs go?!!

Pregnant on 12/17/13
You read it right!  My ab muscles disappeared! I've never not had "great abs" in my life... in fact, I used to be known for having the best abs around in "my day"! hahahaha...  but I've lost it! I'm bloated on the top of my stomach (I know this because the top fluctuates with restroom breaks- TMI) but the bottom has been consistent and I actually have a little "pooch" towards the bottom of my abs/pelvic area. Although all these changes are happening to by body, I can't say enough how excited Eric and I are right now and we can't wait to meet baby Coconut!
2.5 Months
Cuddle Buddies
I think Trixie may sense something is going on or a little different because she hasn't been acting herself  lately. Some days she'll completely ignore me (which has NEVER happened before) and other days she latches onto me to where I can't even walk into the restroom without her following me (which makes the trip pretty awkward, I must say). I wonder how she's going to be when Coconut is born. Eric is worried about her pawing at the baby, but I think she'll be great- as long as we make sure to show her a lot of attention as well.  This week has been quite a busy week. With work and feeling so tired all the time... all I want to do is sleep! I've been going to bed anywhere between 6:30pm and 8:30pm most nights and some days, that's even after I've had a nap earlier in the day! I haven't taken naps like this since I was in college in Ohio! hahahaha
Trixie wants milk too!
Nice lunch date last Thursday
As far as my cravings and my go-to foods my stomach has been happy with: Cold sliced peaches and bean and cheese burritos!  And yes, I eat them together!  I've never once have bought fruit at work but I catch myself getting sliced peaches every time I make it down there to eat! (Very unlike me).  My stomach hasn't been liking foods I usually don't mind eating; chicken, hamburgers, and other heavy meat, so I guess beans are a good substitute for protein.  I also have been drinking a glass of milk with Ovaltine to get my calcium and vitamin D as well (yes Mom and Dad, I've been drinking my milk!) ;) hahahaha. I've also had to change my prenatal vitamins because I wasn't able to keep the other horse pills down. I've switched to Gummy prenatal vitamins! They actually taste super good! I don't mind taking them at all! I'm still not drinking anything with Caffeine... no coffee or soda, although I have had a few sips here and there of Eric's soda, but other than that, haven't had a full can still since 11/12/13 (The day we found out I was pregnant) That's an accomplishment in itself for me being the huge soda lover I am (or was).
Mommy and Daddy are so in love!
Ohhhh baby Coconut!!! We're so excited for you! I'm going to try to keep up with this blog for you so you can look back and read it when you get older.  Your daddy kisses my belly every night before we go to sleep and everyday he tells me how excited he is to be a daddy!  He's going to be such a great dad and I can't wait to see how much fun he's going to have with you.  Our first appointment with the doctor is Janurary 3, 2014!!! Hopefully, at that time, we'll get our first glimpse of you! I think it'll really sink in that our life will be forever changed at that point (in the best way!)

To friends and family:  Please feel free to leave COMMENTS on the blog, about the blog or little messages to Coconut as one day, he or she, will grow up and be able to read them and see how much they have been loved from the very beginning! :)

Cheers!

Bowling Night!!!

My bowling partner in crime! (Nikki)
Tonight is bowling night!!! Woohoo! Eric and I really look forward to Thursdays because of bowling night! and believe me, looked up if bowling was safe to do while pregnant quite awhile ago and it definitely is (I won't be bowling after league is over in January, though.) We bowl on a team with our awesome friends Nikki and Anthony every Thursday and it's such a blast!  Three games versus a different team every week... Nothing really feels different when I'm bowling now that I'm pregnant except for the fact that after the first game (of three), I just want to lay down and take a nap! haha right there in the middle of the lane! I actually feel like that tired all the time!!!

Parents defeating us in beer pong o.O
This week so far has been great!  On Saturday, we went tailgating with my family at the Coliseum for the USC vs UCLA game.  The tailgate party was out of control. Definitely different than the tailgating I was used to in the Midwest cause here in California the police roam around, the rules are enforced and everything is so strict.  Nonetheless, it was still a great time! I, of course, didn't drink- but the alcohol was definitely flowing, the brisket was roasting, and the food was plentiful.  I made my famous 7 layer bean dip and it was gobbled up pretty quickly.  Eric and I played beer pong against my sister and Curtis but Eric obviously had to do all the drinking for our team LOL.  We even played a game of beer pong against my parents and lost!!! I would like to think of it as beginners luck for them! ;)  It was fun hanging out with them and I was so happy to see everyone having such a good time together.  Good times all around!
Coconut first USC/UCLA game!

My sleep schedule has been so wacky.  I wake up every morning (work or not) between 3:30am- 4:15am for no reason at all and have a hard time taking naps because I'm such a light sleeper.  Needless to say, I've been walking around like a zombie! This past Monday, I woke up at 3:07am and by the time it was 6am, I felt as if I had been up for half the day already and was craving pepperoni pizza!  Eric woke up around 4:15 shortly after I did to work on some business stuff and at 6 o'clock, went to the store and got me a frozen pizza!!!   I'm so lucky, he's been so great with me!  I haven't been to sick yet.  (TMI) have vomited only a few times but every day I'm randomly so nauseaous and tired. He encourages me to sleep and checks in with me frequently throughout the day. He's so excited to be a father and I couldn't have asked for a better person to be our baby's dad!  I'm so looking forward to seeing him play, hold, etc with the baby!
Most intense goofy game of beer pong ever!

Trixie's reindeer present she tore up!
Last night we had Erics' parents over for dinner. It's been awhile since they've been to our house so we were really excited for them see our place all decorated for Christmas!  I made chocolate cupcakes and they brought over cookies, candy and a present for Trixie that she tore up by the end of the night (what a monster!) I made homemade tacos and we all enjoyed great conversation!  It was really nice!!! I fell asleep almost immediately after they left.

A new thing for me during this pregnancy is my back is starting to feel sore pretty often. I read it's pretty normal, so I'm not too worried about it but it is uncomfortable.  I always had bought my jeans to fit (meaning there's no room to grow) and it's worked out for me... until now.  I'm so bloated that I'm having a really hard time fitting into all my jeans!!!  I've been sporting the yoga pants look lately which I'm okay with cause it's so comfortable.  People don't know if I just woke up or if I just got done working out! ;)  haha! I'll keep em guessing.
You'll never know! ;) haha

My weight has been fluctuating a little bit, but I think it's because I've been eating more cookies and sweets than ever before.  I've never been one to crave sweets- but now I can't get enough of those darn Reeses Chips Ahoy Cookies!  Today I weighed in at 118.6 pounds.  Yesterday I was at 120.  I'm not too much bigger scale-wise than what I usually am on the scale, but I feel I'm getting out of shape-quick!  For the first time in my life, I don't have muscle definition on my stomach!  ahhhh!!! Times are a-changin! haha...Oh well, "I'm pregnant!" ;) haha

We're Pregnant!

We're Pregnant!!! (x3 at home tests)
That's right!!! WE'RE PREGNANT!!! Well, I'm pregnant! haha! By now, obviously we've already told our parents, grandparents and closest friends- so now we can tell the world!!!  Just kidding... we're waiting to tell everyone till 10 weeks.  First off, Eric and I are super excited and we thank the ones who have been calling me to congratulate us and seeing how i've been feeling often... that means so much to us!  I'm only about 7 weeks, so it's still pretty early, but since my family has been constantly calling and asking how i've been feeling day to day (much appreciated), I thought I could make a blog to keep them and whoever else informed on the pregnancy! :) First off, I just wanted to say Thank you to the ones who have been "checking in" on me... it means the world to me.  I've been feeling ok for the most part... but my appetite hasn't been all there as it usually is. I even turned down bacon the other day!!! What?! That's so not like me! Most meat have been tasting like  fishy fish to me (Yuck!!!)

Caffeine Free since 11/12/13
I've also cut out caffeine since we found out I was pregnant on 11/12/13 (pretty cool date huh? I'll post how we found out in another post). I know if I wanted to, I can drink about a can of soda a day, but I'm choosing not to so I can give our baby the best chance possible health-wise. Going from a few cans or ounces a day to stopping cold turkey hasn't been as bad as I thought. It helps that I'm keeping the bigger picture in mind! ;)

Cravings (so far): Ice Cream and Pizza
